Hardknott Pass was blocked after a lorry got into difficulty.
Drivers were asked to avoid the area if possible while recovery took place today, February 27, Cumbria police said.
Delays were expected, although traffic was coping well, police said.
The incident was reported at around 2.20pm and the road was cleared at around 3.30pm.
