Maryport Athletic advanced to the semi-final of the Fred Conway County Cup with a 3-0 victory over Windscale.
The County League side will now host the holders Workington Reds and were full value for their win against their Wearside League opponents.
The tie was eventually completed at the third attempt, being staged on the Astro at Lakes College, and the result was a true reflection of the game.
Maryport took the lead in the first 10 minutes when Ellis Short headed home from a corner kick.
The County League side continued to exert pressure on the Windscale goal without adding to their tally, and they still led 1-0 at the break.
The Atoms came more into the game in the second period with the elements at their backs. However, their movement and work rate was ponderous, well below the levels of the Maryport team who doubled their lead in the 65th minute.
Another corner kick was partially cleared, but the loose ball was picked up by Ciaran Laverty who slotted home into the bottom corner.
The 2-0 lead provided Maryport with a comfortable buffer, and the Atoms struggled to make any impact on a resolute Maryport defence.
The tie was sealed seven minutes from the end with Ciaran Booty notching Maryport’s third goal to set up a mouth-watering semi-final at home against Workington Reds.
Windscale can have no complaints as Maryport had more desire and passion and were deserving of their victory.
The Atoms, who had experienced a 14 game unbeaten run, need to address a downward spiral of results which have seen them without a win since the end of January.
They face another difficult Wearside League game next week when they travel to meet Hartlepool Youth.
