
There was a competitive mid-table battle in Division One of the Carlisle and District Snooker League last night.
Longtown Social Club and South End Club A went head-to-head and the first game saw Tony Steele take on Phil Wall.
It was a nip and tuck contest to the colours where the Longtown player prevailed on the pink to win the frame 62-48 while in the second game Longtown’s David Murray beat Keith Graham 54-25 to stretch their lead to 2-0.
The third game proved to be the frame of the night between Willie Cairns and John Yeomans. The SECC A player forged ahead with a nice 31 break leaving Willie needing all the colours.
A fine pink from the Longtown player sent the frame to a black ball decider which Willie took to give Longtown a 3-0 lead and a frame score of 54 – 45.
Martin Goodhead pulled a frame back for the South End by beating Jamie Jackson in frame four. He played particularly well to restrict chances for Jamie and ran out a winner 47-4.
In the final game of the night Andrew Story continued his fine form winning 86-9 against Imants ‘Monty’ Stakle, including breaks of 28 and 21.
Final score Longtown 4 SECC A 1, with a one point bonus for the home victory, making the score 5-1.

In Division Two Eastriggs Social Club travelled to the Ex Servicemens Club to play their B Team and in the opening frame, Gary Hurst for the hosts took on Robbie Kerr in a close game. Gary was able to pot the final few balls to win the frame 59-30.
Frame two was a low scoring affair between James Lambert and David Smith for the visitors. There were no big breaks and David snatched the frame by potting the final black for a 38-36 win to make the match score 1-1.
Frame three was a cracker between the two number one players. ‘Titch’ Beattie, for Ex B, had a 22 break and potted the final black to beat Chris Sharkey 65-61.
In frame four Davy Campbell levelled the match score for Eastriggs at 2-2 by winning 60-25 against Sam Cowen in a tough match.
In the final match of the night Barry Cruddace prevailed for the home team over Brian Peat 44-22 which meant the Ex Servicemens Club won the match 3-2 and got the extra bonus point for the home win (4-2).
