
Carlisle Athletic, just elected to the Cumberland County League, are a new club setting off from scratch.
They will be playing in the league’s Division One and will be based at Caldew School in Dalston.
The seeds for an application were sown when four members of the Carlisle City Development squad were concerned that they might fold.
They got together with mates who played regular seven-a-side matches and decided to go ahead with their bold plan to enter a structured league.
The club has a number of sponsors, supplying kits, and they have been holding a series of trial games to find more players.
They will continue to build for the season with a series of friendlies. Indeed when work of the acceptance into the county league was made public there were quickly two offers of friendly games.
