Lee Brennan, lead singer of 90s boyband 911, has joined the line-up of a new Cumbrian radio station.

CRFM, a community radio station for Carlisle, has begun test transmissions after a new aerial was installed at the top of the city’s Civic Centre.

The station said that early indications were that the station could be heard as far as Brampton, across to Low Hesket in the south, Burgh-by-Sands to the west and Wigton to the south west.

Darrell Thomas, station MD, said: “It’s great to hook up with Lee again. I remember receiving a tape and photo from him some 30 years ago explaining that he wanted to be a singer.

“One quick call to my mate at Backlash management in Glasgow and Lee became the lead singer of 911, that’s how dreams are made into a reality, you should always push for the top.

Lee, Spike & Jimmy formed 911 in 1995 and had 10 top 10 hits and two number one singles, selling 10 million records worldwide.

In February 2023 the group had a number one on all platforms in Vietnam with their ballad I Do, and the music video has had over 63 million views on YouTube since release.

Lee will host a show called The Pop Rewind on Fridays from 7pm to 10pm.
