The bomb squad were called out after a person reported a piece of possible ordnance on a West Cumbrian beach.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said they were called on Tuesday to the south shore at Whitehaven after the person called 999.
It was suspected that it may have been an unexploded bomb and the military was called in.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said: “The item was assessed by the military’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit and deemed no action required. Cumbria police were also in attendance.
“Any suspicious items found on the coast should be reported to the Coastguard immediately on 999.
“Our Coastguard rescue officers are trained to help identify ordnance and work in advance of and alongside the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit on their arrival. We also have the equipment and training to safely deal with marine pyrotechnics which may be found around our coastline.”
