Windscale dropped another three Wearside League points at Shotton Colliery in a game played in extremely windy conditions when both teams were reduced to ten men after only 22 minutes.
Shotton went on to win the game 3-1 but there is a chance to put things right with two home games on the horizon.
On Wednesday they take on Willington with a 7-45pm kick-off and on Saturday they host Wolviston (2:30pm).
Following an even opening spell with the Atoms playing against the elements, they took the lead from the penalty spot in the 21st minute.
Shotton keeper Jay Nicholson was advancing from his line when Lewis Jolly floated the ball over his head towards goal, covering defender Liam Ritchie prevented a score pushing the ball away with both hands.
Following the issue of a red cars, Jolly despatched the resulting spot kick to give the Atoms the lead.
The differential in numbers lasted two minutes, when Windscale defender Byran Todd was dismissed for a tackle which the match official deemed to be dangerous play.
The next scoring opportunity fell to Windscale. Jack Wordsworth broke down the right, crossing the ball to Jolly who was unable to put the necessary power behind his effort to beat Nicholson.
Shotton were denied an equaliser when Atoms’ custodian Lee Jolly made a great stop from Chris Hudson who was put through one-on-one with the keeper.
Shotton levelled the scores and then took the lead in a seven-minute spell of pressure with Dylan King and Carl O’Sullivan finding the back of the Windscale net.
The home side added a further goal in the fourth minute of added time. Jolly was deceived by the flight of the ball which was caught on the wind, and Hudson applied the finishing touch.
Wordsworth missed a glorious opportunity to reduce the arrears right on half time, firing over the Shotton crossbar from close range when he was sent clear by Reece Fretwell.
Trailing 3-1 at the break Windscale had the wind in their favour in the second period, and they were in the ascendancy.
A shot from Fretwell cannoned back off the post in the early stages and a Matt Metcalf chance from a corner evaded the Shotton goal. Despite being camped in the Shotton half the Atoms were unable to worry Nicholson unduly, and the hosts themselves rattled the Atoms crossbar from a breakaway attack late in the game.
It was another disappointing result with the frustrations showing late in the game with a level of apathy beginning to manifest itself within the Atoms team.
