A major revamp of a Lake District country house hotel has been completed.

The Borrowdale Gates Hotel has had a seven-figure sum spent on the upgrade of its 32 bedrooms and central areas.

The hotel remained open throughout the work, which was completed in phases.

Originally a private residence, the Borrowdale Gates opened as a hotel in 1866.

Sue Willan, general manager, said: “We’re delighted to be showcasing the final results of our refurbishment which has transformed the guest experience at Borrowdale Gates Hotel.

“From the outset, our goal was to create a small slice of understated luxury that reflects the stunning natural backdrop of the Lake District, and complements the superb, locally sourced menu in our restaurant and the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere our team creates for guests during their stay.

Dagmar Jungbauer, director of operations at the venue’s management company Providence Hotels said: “Maintaining operations while undergoing the refurbishment was no small feat, but we wanted to ensure guests could still enjoy the comfort and hospitality they’ve come to expect from the Borrowdale Gates Hotel.”

Danie Bester, group facilities manager at Providence Hotels, added: “This monumental endeavour marks a significant milestone for the Borrowdale Gates Hotel.”
