A confident display saw Penrith move back into second place in the league with a 5-1 win over Carlisle United Ladies.

Elli Gallacher opened the scoring in the first ten minutes with a confident strike for Penrith before Carlisle rallied and it became a close, tight game.

But the game changed again when Jodie English scored Penrith’s second after Carly Green had beaten two players before pulling the ball back for her team-mate to finish well at the near post.

Carlisle pulled one back slightly against the run of play before Carly Green found the top corner with a fine strike from 20 yards to give Penrith a 3-1 half time lead.

The second half was predominantly Penrith and Chloe Griesdale finished off a flowing move, breaking into the box and finishing well to make it 4-1.

A great ball from Kim McCormick split the Carlisle defence and released Abbie Forster who kept a cool head and scored her 16th league goal in 16 games to score Penrith’s fifth.

Penrith had several chances to extend their lead but a mixture of good goalkeeping and defending from Carlisle prevented that.

Sixteen-year-old Elli Gallacher was awarded player of the game in only her fourth start for Penrith.
