A carriage driving event near Cleator Moor attracted some interested observers as they took the rare chance to see the sport close up.
The Dumfries and Galloway Horse Driving Club run under the affiliation of their national body of British Carriage Driving, and as a club has been established for over 40 years.
The club covers Dumfries and Galloway and West Cumbria, encouraging drivers of all abilities to have a go at driven eventing.
The youngest competitor at the weekend was six years old and the oldest was 72.The course builder was in his 80s.
Chairman Jen Bernard said: “We’ve around 15 members in West Cumbria, drivers and helpers and there were ten drivers at the week-end.
“We have three outdoor events currently during the summer season, one in April/ May, one in June, one in July and then we run indoor challenge competitions over the winter months, from September through to March.
“All told we’ve about thirty members, not all of them drive, some love the sport and want to help others enjoy the sport.
“The other affiliated club in the county is the North West Driving Club and we encourage all our members to enjoy competing with other affiliated clubs, of which there are many throughout the country try and run our events so as not to clash with other club’s weekends, making it possible to be away driving our ponies, with like-minded friends from mid-February, right through to November.”
