West Cumbria’s popular punk band Colt 45 is heading out on a mini tour this weekend, including a show at The Source Collective in Carlisle.
The three-piece band, featuring guitarist and lead vocalist Neil Harper, bassist Gareth Jenkins, of Workington, and Carlisle drummer Adam Lewis will travel to Cheltenham on Friday May 10, Carlisle on Saturday May 11 and Birmingham on Sunday May 12.
They will be joined on all dates by post-hardcore outfit Seek Harbour from Kent, with the tour being promoted by Saviour Management agency.
The band formed in 2008 and have played around 1,000 gigs, including support slots with the likes of Funeral For A Friend, Three Days Grace, Lower Than Atlantis, Buzzcocks and Young Guns, and festival appearances including Download, Rebellion, Camden Rocks, Takedown, Radio 1’s Big Weekend and Kendal Calling.
The Carlisle show will be their first for over a year in the city.
Neil said: “We’re looking forward to getting out for a few shows with Seek Harbour, it’s a long time since we played in Cheltenham and Birmingham and we’re keen to see how our new songs go down with people.
“It’s always a blast playing in Carlisle, it’s like a hometown show really, we have a lot of friends there and have played at the Source and the Brickyard dozens of times over the years, and it’s where we rehearse.
“It’ll be a great night of live music and we’ll be playing plenty of old ones as well!”
The mini tour will see the band playing tracks from their forthcoming new album which has been in the works for the last couple of years.
Gareth said: “We’ve been recording new music on and off since 2021 and we’ll be releasing a new album this year.
“It’s taken a while due to Covid and the fact we don’t have as much time as we did when we were younger, we all have families now, but it’s definitely coming and it’s the best set of songs we’ve ever written!”
The band has toured all over the UK and Europe after being signed to the Visible Noise record label in 2013.
They have released two albums and one EP which are all available in HMV stores and online via streaming platforms. Colt 45 have been played by Radio 1, Kerrang Radio and famously stepped in as headliners at the Cockrock festival in 2013 to replace rapper Wiley after he was booed offstage for insulting the Cumbrian crowd.
The band’s album The Tide Is Turning was praised by music magazine Rock Sound as “catchy and euphoric punk-tinged brilliance,” and likened Colt 45’s sound to the Manic Street Preachers, Gaslight Anthem and Rise Against.
