Maryport Masters are hosting their annual charity game this Saturday, an event which was unfortunately postponed last month because of the pitch conditions after heavy rain.
All proceeds from the day will be given to local charity Parkinson’s West Cumbria and the action gets underway at 1pm.
The charity game has taken on a new look this year, however, with the Maryport side taking on two teams. First they will welcome the newly formed St Benedict’s Masters, playing in their first game and welcomed into the Masters family.
This will be followed by a game with old friends from Carlisle Masters. The action will then be finished off with a game between Carlisle and St Benedict’s.
The games take on a sentimental reason as a bit of a symbolic landmark for one of the Maryport players, Ken Harker who had been celebrating his 80th birthday when the event was initially postponed.
He will be presented with his blue shorts which signified that Ken has reached his 80th birthday and still turns up to training and plays for the Maryport side when he can, which is a fantastic achievement.
The games will then be followed by a raffle with some attractive prizes and live music in the bar, with local artist Ben Akehurst starting at 4.30pm.
Maryport Masters would like to thank everyone who has donated prizes for the raffle and helped with organising the day. Everyone is welcome with the bar open from 12.30pm.
