Workington’s injury woes continue

Jordan Burns (Ben Challis)

Workington Town’s bad luck with injuries has continued ahead of their trip to Rochdale Hornets on Sunday.

Jordan Burns and Jonny Hutton are the latest to join the list of absentees, while Ciaran Walker starts a two-match suspension after being sent-off in the last match against Midlands Hurricanes.

There were concerns over the fitness of Matty Henson after he picked up a serious looking arm injury in the same game but he has been included in the 21 for the Rochdale game.

To boost the squad coach Anthony Murray has gone back to Oldham and loaned Kiaran Tyrer, 21, a half-back or full-back who started his career with Wigan Warriors. He spent time on dual registration with the Roughyeds last season and agreed a permanent deal this year.

He is the son of former Oldham full-back Sean Tyrer.

Town have already played the Hornets at the Fibrus Community Stadium when they were successful, beating their visitors 32-22.

Sunday’s squad is: Carl Forber, Chris Taylor, Connor Saunders, Ellis Archer, Ethan Bickerdike, Grant Reid, Jack Stephenson, Jake Bradley, Jarrod Sammut, Jason Mossop, JJ Key, Jordan Thomson, Kieran  Tyrer, Lasarusa Tabu, Liam McNicholas, Luke Charlton, Matty Henson, Pone Tongia, Stevie Scholey, Tyler Walton, Zarrin Galea.
