Connor Bailey, Workington’s former number one, will be back in Comets’ colours on Saturday.
The Australian, who currently rides for Redcar Bears in the Championship, has been booked to guest for the Comets in place of Finnish star Antti Vuolas.
Workington ride against Oxford at Northside while Vuolas is contesting an FIM SGP World Championship qualifying round in Zarnovica, Slovakia.
Also taking part is Great Britain’s Robert Lambert, Australian Brady Kurtz and Germany’s Norick Blödorn who rides for Belle Vue.
Vuolas has made a big impression over the first two months of his British debut season and it will be interesting to see how he goes in this high class event.
Bailey, who was the track record holder at Northside during the inaugural National Development League season, is a shrewd recruit by the Workington management.
However, he will be looking to improve on his scoring at Oxford last week when he only managed two points from his four outings – two thirds, a last and a retirement.
It was a similar story on Monday in the Premiership when he also scored two at reserve for Belle Vue in their win over King’s Lynn which put the Aces top of the table.
Oxford are operating in all three Divisions of British speedway this season with the Spires, Cheetahs and Chargers.
The club got their Cab Direct Championship campaign off to a great start with a 53-36 win over Redcar, with all of the Cheetahs riders scoring well.
Reserve Luke Killeen notched 10 and said: “I’m definitely happy with how it went. It’s the first time I’ve scored double figures at this level without the help of the bonus points, while it was also the first time I’ve won more than one race on the same night and the first time I’ve won a race outside of the reserves race in Heat 2. It’s all moving in the right direction.
“It was a really good team performance from all of us and it was nice to start our league fixtures with a performance like that.”
The Cheetahs will be led by former GP star Scott Nicholls, who was itching for a proper spin round the Northside track when he was up in West Cumbria ahead of the new season giving tips and advice to promising young riders from around the country.
