Keswick Amateur Operatic Society’s latest production will take taking us high into the Austrian Alps with their production of The Sound of Music.
It will take place during the May half term holiday at Theatre by The Lake in Keswick.
Packed with songs and tunes that everyone either knows or finds familiar, the show is based on the incredible true story of a high-spirited novice nun and the courageous family she inspires with music.
The story of Maria and the Von Trapp family is one of faith, love, passion and strength mixed into a cocktail with singing nuns, children and vile Nazis.
Maria is played by Amy Hall and Captain Von Trapp by James Hutchinson, who are no strangers to treading the boards having been in several of KAOS’ previous performances.
However, the stars of the show are undoubtedly the band of Von Trapp children who have joined the society for this year’s extravaganza.
They are all taking part in either two or three shows each.
Sisters Megan and Erin Richardson, who play Gretl and Brigita in two of the shows, are very excited about it ,although Megan said: “I hope don’t fall asleep really during the party scene because that would be really embarrassing”.
Rehearsals have been running smoothly and the whole cast are looking forward to getting into character.
Nuns have been found silently parading the streets of Keswick, occasionally bursting into rapturous song led by the exceptionally talented Jenni Hutchinson as the Mother Abbess.
Her rendition of Climb Every Mountain will bring a tear to everyone’s eyes while the naughty antics of Sister Alexis will have the audience tittering raucously.
Keswick Amateur Operatic Society’s The Sound of Music will be performed from Thursday May 30 until Sunday June 2.
