A group of Cumbrian Young Farmers aim to complete an epic challenge to raise cash for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Raughton Head Young Farmers plan to travel the distance between John O’Groats and Lands End collectively as a club in a single day.
Many Miles For MND Challenge will see the team of young farmers stationed at the Recreation Centre in Dalston, near Carlisle, from 10am on June 29.
Members can contribute to the mileage total in any way they see fit whether that be a walk with other members, a run or jog, a collective game of football, cycling some miles or doing whatever form of exercise they wish as long as it’s monitored by Strava or another distance tracking app. Each distance will then be recorded until the team reaches the 874-mile total.
People are encouraged to come along and cheer on the team as they embark on the epic challenge to raise money and awareness for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and there will be a full day of activities taking place to support the challenge.
The team are supporting the charity to support local dairy farmer Richard Messenger, who was diagnosed with the disease in February.
Three of Richard’s children are members of Raughton Head Young Farmers and the whole team are keen to raise as much money and awareness as possible to help those living with the disease and their families.
Josie Mitchinson, of Raughton Head Young Farmers, said: “When Richard was diagnosed it was a certainty that our 2024 charity challenge would raise money for such a worthwhile close to home cause. This charity is very close to all of us, and we hope to make as much money as possible for such a worthy cause.”
