Workington ended a run of three defeats in Cumbria League cricket with a win in the opening game of the new T20 tournament.
Having lost to local rivals Whitehaven in that three-match sequence it was particularly rewarding to get some form of revenge in the shorter, quick-fire format.
Workington won the toss and elected to bat and at the end of their 20 overs had reached 96-8.
That was mainly down to opener Jake Daniel (29 from 26), David Pearce (15 from 22) and Adam Chambers (10 off 17) with nobody else in double figures.
For Whitehaven Josh Foster took 3-28, Billy Thompson had 2-13 and pro Terance Warde weighed in with 2-14.
Opener Chase Young blasted a fine 50 off 52 balls but just had no support at all as no-one scored more than 7 – Leo Sanczuk.
It was a tense finish, however, before Whitehaven closed their 20 overs on 90-9.
Australian Jack White took 3-9 from his four overs while skipper Matthew Lowden had 2-11 and Pearce took 2-17.
Workington are at home to Cleator in the Cumbria League Premier Division on Saturday while Whitehaven have a Copeland derby at Egremont.
