A 75-year-old man had to be rescued by volunteers after he was knocked to the ground by a gate in the Lake District.

The man was halfway up Jenkin Hill when the heavy gate closed quickly with a gust of wind, while he was out on Wednesday, May 29 at around 12.15pm.

Unable to weight bear to continue his descent, he called Keswick Mountain Rescue Team for help.

The team said: “On arrival the team assessed the man, gave him some strong pain relief and stretchered him down to an awaiting ambulance for onward transfer to hospital.”

Later on that afternoon, at around 12.15pm, at Stockley Bridge in Borrowdale, a 44-year-old man slipped and tripped on the descent path to Seathwaite from Sty Head Tarn.

The rain and poor visibility had decided them to abort their intended hike up Scafell Pike.

The man went over on his ankle and was unable to continue.

The team said: “Fortunately at that location there was just enough phone signal to get a call through for a rescue. The team assessed the man’s ankle before splinting it and stretchering him down to Seathwaite for a handover with the ambulance.”
