Only one Cumbrian will be involved with England in the Euros which start next week.
Dean Henderson of Crystal Palace, who hails from Whitehaven, will stay with the England squad as they prepare for the tournament which starts next week.
Three Cumbrians were involved in Monday’s friendly at Newcastle but Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite (Everton) from Wigton and James Trafford (Burnley) from Greysouthen were among the seven players who missed out.
England manager Gareth Southgate had to reduce his squad from 33 to 26 and he admitted that it had not been easy.
England play a final friendly tonight (Friday) against Iceland before the tournament start a week later.
Jack Grealish (Man City), Harry Maguire (Man Utd), James Maddison (Spurs), Curtis Jones (Liverpool and Jarell Quansah, along with the two Cumbrians Branthwaite and Trafford were the unlucky seven.
Quansah, rather than Branthwaite, will stay with the squad for the Iceland game in case there are defensive injuries on the night.
