Cumbria have to win their last two group matches to stand a chance of progressing in the NCCA One Day Trophy.

It’s a competition in which Cumbria have reached the last four finals – and lost them all to Berkshire.

But after a rain-off and a low-scoring defeat to Cambridgeshire Cumbria have it all to do in their remaining games with Northumberland at Kendal on Sunday and a week later at Bourne against Lincolnshire.

For the game at Kendal the Cockermouth captain Matthew Sempill continues to lead the side in the absence of the injured Michael Slack.

There are two debutants in the Cumbria team – Ben Barrow of the Netherfield club and Will Fraine from the York club.

Fraine is a former Notts and Yorkshire batsman who is playing for the York club in the Yorkshire Premier League.

Top-order batsman Fraine was released by Yorkshire following the expiration of his contract at Headingley at the end of last season, having made 1,638 runs during his four-year stint at the club.

Fraine, who is actually 28 today, made his first-class debut for Durham against Gloucestershire, playing four times amid his studies for a degree in Sport, Exercise and Physical Activity.

The Huddersfield-born batsman then went on to play a further 11 times across three formats for Nottinghamshire, before returning to his native county on a three-year deal from the Trent Bridge outfit in 2018.

Fraine scored a maiden first-class century in his first season with Yorkshire, smashing 106 against a Surrey attack led by South African fast-bowler Morne Morkel at Scarborough

Fraine’s final match for his county came against Durham at the end of September, in which he scored 53 not out.

He is one of the three-out of county players allowed by Cumbria as the side shows three changes from the side beaten by one wicket against Cambridgeshire in their last, low-scoring Trophy game.

Barrow, an experienced Northern League cricketer with Netherfield who has captained the side over a number of years, is described as a competitive cricketer and an attractive top order batsman.

The Cumbria team is: Matthew Sempill (Cockermouth, captain), Ben Barrow (Netherfield), Greg Cameron (Keswick), Sam Dutton (Kendal), Freddie Fallows (Kendal), Will Fraine (York), Ed Moulton (Chorley), Finlay Richardson (Kendal, wk), Sam Sharp (Kendal), Ben Walkden (Newton-le-Willows), Nico Watt (Carlisle).
