Carlisle City have been rocked ahead of a new season by the resignations of manager Jim Nichols and his assistant Alan Inglis.
They have both decided to step down from their positions with the senior team after five-and-a-half seasons at the club.
The duo joined City in February 2019 with the side then playing in the North West Counties Division 1 North.
A lateral move decided by the national FA sent City into Northern League Division 2, and the management partnership started building a competitive squad.
A City statement today said that the club was saddened to receive the news and said: “Season 2021-22 will live long in the memory as City won the Division 2 title, after an incredible late winning run, and also clinched the Cumberland Cup, beating Wetheriggs in the final.
“The two seasons since then have brought consolidation in Division 1 as well as the club’s best-ever run in the FA Vase.
“Everyone at the club will be sorry to see Jim and Alan leave although we understand their reasons after committing hundreds of hours to their roles. We wish them both well for the future.
“We will make a further statement regarding the first-team management position as soon as possible.”
Nichols spoke exclusively to John Walsh of Cumbria Crack to explain what had prompted him and Alan to stand down.
