This weekend, you have the opportunity to see Pride & Prejudice in a setting like no other – the grounds of a Cumbrian castle.
Greystoke Castle, near Penrith, hosts its first major event with the stage version of Pride and Prejudice, tomorrow, Saturday July 6.
Jane Austen’s romantic work has enchanted readers for over two centuries and the team behind Greystoke Castle hope its performance at the stunning location will be a night to remember for the audience.
A love story that transcends the ages – it has been the inspiration for many modern classics and was the basis for the original Bridget Jones film.
Step back in time over 200 years and meet Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters as they navigate the mire of manners of Regency society.
Brought to Greystoke Castle by Chapterhouse Theatre Company, which has a strong pedigree of outdoor theatre, Pride and Prejudice features amazing period costume, timeless wit, and a romantic original score.
Chapterhouse’s Pride and Prejudice is a faithful telling of Austen’s greatest work and the company promises it will be an evening of magical theatre as its cast bring to life the world’s favourite love story.
Part of a nationwide tour, Pride and Prejudice will be performed at Greystoke Castle tomorrow, Saturday July 6.
Doors open at 6pm and the performance starts at 7pm.
The team working to transform Greystoke Castle into a major venue for the first time in its 800-year history said they were excited to be bringing Chapterhouse to the area.
It is the first major event they will hold – with much more in the pipeline – and they hope people flock to see the performance.
Chris Hillman, Greystoke Castle’s development director, says: “We believe we have one of the best backdrops in Cumbria for a live performance and we’re really looking forward to welcoming Chapterhouse to the castle.
“We want to see as many people as possible on picnic blankets and camping chairs on our front lawn to enjoy the performance, which we think will just be magical.”
