Cumbria’s opening game in the NCCA Championship was washed out on the final day.
No play was possible at Jesmond so Northumberland were unable to bat a second time in search of the 242 runs they needed to win.
Cumbria had finished the second day on top and were looking forward to dismissing their hosts for a second time after they had earned a lead of 132 runs on first innings.
Cumbria didn’t fare well themselves in their second innings, bowled out for 109, but the performances of Sam Sharp and Ben Walkden who had combined to help Northumberland for 120, suggested they had the ammunition to force the win.
Unfortunately the weather forecasters proved to be correct and the rain, which had also affected the first day, ultimately proved to be the winner.
Cumbria took ten points from the draw, with Northumberland securing eight.
