Whitehaven are down to two directors and are desperately trying to put together a new board.
The club has seen Grant Taylor, Ian Lowrey and Dave Pennington all resign in the last fortnight.
It leaves Les Messenger and Alan Charlton trying to hold the club together and find others to join them on the board.
Mr Lowrey only joined the board in June but says he will continue to help the club as a volunteer.
Speaking to Cumbria Crack he said: “My resignation had nothing to so with any financial situation or any other turmoil at the club.
“It was just a realisation of what I could do. I am still at the club doing various volunteering jobs and I’m happy working for the betterment of the club in that capacity.”
Mr Pennington was a bit more forceful when he took to social media to explain his resignation.
He wrote: “Far too many people down there think they are bigger than the club and if things don’t change drastically, sadly the gates will close.
“We tried our best and I personally put a lot of money into the club to try and help. People shout at us and this is very upsetting, but all the thanks we get.
“If people are voting with their feet they are only harming the club. But we are not alone in this league – Halifax are in big with their CEO gone, losing players and they haven’t even a ground to play on.
“So if you want this club to carry on then everyone needs to come together and help the club – not just want their names on billboards.
“Everyone keeps saying why have you not done this and that. Well let me tell you we have tried it!
“If things, and people’s attitudes don’t change there will not be any rugby league in Whitehaven. It makes me so upset writing this, but it’s the truth.”
Whitehaven are very much in a relegation battle in the Betfred Championship, along with Cumbrian neighbours Barrow.
They have a massive game at home to Toulouse on Saturday which should easily attract a four figure gate – but will it?
