Whitehaven Rugby League have completed the loan signing of Lewis Baxter from Betfred Super League side Leigh Leopards for the rest of the 2024 season.
The utility forward has made two appearances in Super League for Adrian Lam’s side after signing from St Helens ahead of this season and has also experience in the Championship and League 1 having had spells at Swinton and North Wales in 2023.
Baxter came through the Academy set up at the Saints and the 22-year-old links up with Haven on an initial two-week loan.
Whitehaven’s head coach Jonty Gorley said: “We’ve tried to get Lewis for a few weeks now for cover for our back row but he’s had a niggling injury, so Leigh have waited until he is fit to play. Lewis coming to us is even more timely now with Owen McCarron missing this week with his HIA.
“Lewis joined Leigh from St Helens after coming through their youth ranks to eventually play Super League for them so as always, with lads who come through SL systems, he will do the right thing on and off the field for us and I’m sure he’ll make an impression on Saturday.”
Baxter will go straight into the Whitehaven squad for a really attractive home game on Saturday against Toulouse Olympique.
