Workington Town Women FC have added two more players to their squad ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Sisters Kirsten and Cassie Donald have agreed to sign following the announcement last week that Town Women had recruited Keeley Chatters and Rachel Gallaghers.
The Aspatria siblings recently contacted the club and made their interest known after deciding to leave Step 4 Club Durham Cestria due to balancing changes with work commitments and a demanding travel schedule for training.
They have played for Durham Cestria since the age of around 14, with Kirsten cementing a regular starting place for the first team while Cassie has excelled for their Reserves.
Kirsten had shone in her role as a holding midfielder, winning the most improved player for the club in the season preceding a three-year absence through injury.
Whereas Cassie had plied her skills from a more advanced attacking position earning her the top goal scorer and players player accolades last season. Her form hadn’t gone unnoticed as she had already started knocking on the door for first team recognition.
On the decision to leave a club that sits two tiers above their new surroundings, Kirsten said: “It’s obviously been a decision that we haven’t taken easily and a lot of consideration has gone in before the final decision was made as Durham have been great with us both.
“We will always hold fond memories close to our hearts and be thankful for everything they have given us.”
Cassie added: “After many years of hitting the road three times per week, my circumstances have changed as I will be starting an apprenticeship after the holidays. We’ve both made many great friends over the years and I’m sure we will stay in touch and keeping a close eye on their results each weekend.

“Equally, we are really excited to be joining Workington and are committed to building a future with the club.”
When asked what had directed them to Workington, the pair said: “We’ve heard lots of good things about the changes that the club have made and the foundations that they have established for the future are really positive.
“We believe that we can play a big part in club delivering their ambitions and are excited to get started in the coming season.”
On their signing first team manager Paul Mackenzie said: “Their approach came as a bit of a surprise to be honest, an extremely pleasant one may I add.
“Although they are both young players, the experience and exposure of working at a higher level they bring with them has brought a real excitement to everyone at the club.
“We aren’t that far away from having what I would suggest are full numbers for the first team and the depth of quality across the squad is very pleasing. We have started pre-season training and the players have been working extremely hard and I can’t thank them enough for their efforts.”
