A teenager was airlifted to hospital after he fell while ghyll scrambling in the Lake District.
He was part of an organised group taking part in the activity at Church Beck yesterday, Wednesday, July 24.
Cumbria police called Coniston Mountain Rescue Team to the incident, which happened at around 4.20pm.
The youngster fell onto rocks on the stream bed, causing possible multiple injuries.
The mountain rescue team said: “We despatched two Land Rovers to the track beside the beck. The Great North Air Ambulance landed close by, and its crew joined us.
“The casualty was assessed, strong pain relief given, and he was placed in a vacuum mattress (which acts as a body splint) onto our stretcher.
“Meanwhile, a rope system had been set up to raise the stretcher out of the gorge to flatter ground. We then carried the stretcher up the last part to the track, and then down to the helicopter.
“He was flown to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for treatment.”
