Barrow slipped to a 1-0 home defeat to AFC Fylde last night when they conceded a late goal.
There were 12 minutes left when Fylde grabbed the winner as Owen Evans knocked home a low cross from short range.
After Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Real Union Steven Clemence made eight changed and handed the captain’s armband to veteran midfielder, Sam Foley.
The Bluebirds opened brightly and created some opportunities in the early stages with Dom Telford first to go close with a smart turn and a low shot which was saved by the feet of the Fyle keeper.
The Foley tried his luck from range, but it did not have the power to test the keeper who held onto it comfortably.
After that bright start Barrow found it increasingly harder to create opportunities against a resolute Fylde defence which gave very little away.
The first-half rather tailed away but after the break Andy Dallas raced onto a Telford pass and stung the gloves of the keeper as he palmed it away.
coming close to breaking the deadlock after Telford played a neat ball through. However, the Scott saw his fierce effort palmed away.
Elliot Newby was closest to giving Barrow the lead after 55 minutes but after racing onto a fine ball from Connor Mahoney he curled his shot against the post.
Clemence made five changes just after the 70-minute mark and two of the new arrivals almost fashioned a goal. Ged Garner’s low cross was narrowly missed by Emile Acquah.
Then came Fylde’s winner to give Clemence some food for thought, particularly over his side’s apparent lack of fire power.
However before the game Barrow announced two new arrivals, taking the new manager’s recruitment since his arrival to seven new players.
Joining the Bluebirds are Ben Jackson from Huddersfield on a permanent deal and Neo Eccleston on a season’s long loan from Huddersfield.
Jackson has signed for an undisclosed fee and has put pen to paper on a three year deal.
The 23-year-old left-back has vast experience at Championship level, having made 45 appearances in England’s second tier, with 27 of those matches coming last season.
Jackson is also no stranger to League Two, having had a brief loan spell at Bolton Wanderers under former Barrow Boss, Ian Evatt where he bagged one goal in five matches. The loan spell ultimately ended with silverware as he helped Wanderers achieve promotion back up to England’s third tier.
The Stockport-born defender came through the ranks at Huddersfield but spent many of his early years going out on loans to sides ranging from the National League to League One.
Eccleston is a 20-year-old right-back who has only just got back from The Terriers’ pre-season trip to Austria where he picked up some first-team minutes under new Manager, Michael Duff.
This was the young right back’s first taste of first-team action in West Yorkshire having applied his trade in the League One side’s B team for the past couple of seasons, where he did enough to earn himself a new contract last season which currently runs until the summer of 2025.
Neo actually joined the Terrier’s Youth setup when they were a Championship side, at the age of just 16 having spent his earlier academy days with West-London side, Chelsea, playing with the likes of Levi Colwill.
