The historic Leighton Hall in Carnforth, the ancestral home of the illustrious Gillow furniture family, transformed its serene parkland last Sunday into a bustling arena of motorcycle excitement, writes Vince Brand.
It was ready for the 2024 Leighton Hall Motorcycle Hill Climb.
Riders faced the challenge of a 220-metre uphill course, featuring a demanding 60-degree bend just 50 metres from the start.
Competitors pushed their machines to the edge, reaching speeds of up to 100mph, with no restrictions on engine size, speed, or noise.
The event welcomed all types of motorcycles, including modern, classic, vintage, retro, three-wheelers, superbikes, and even mopeds, embracing riders of all ages and experience levels.
This inclusive atmosphere provided a perfect platform for both seasoned competitors and newcomers to assess their machines and skills in a friendly environment.
Under warm, sunny skies, the hill climb festival kicked off at 8.30am, with practice runs starting an hour later. The main event began at 1pm and highlighted a strong field of riders.
Beyond the racing action, competitors and spectators had the opportunity to engage with various exhibitors, such as the Motorbike Action Group, Trail Riders Federation, the Riders Branch of the Royal British Legion, and Mental Health Motorbike, an organisation supporting the biker community in the UK.
A special shout-out goes to the volunteers of Marshalls North West, the region’s premier non-profit marshalling club, who ensured the event’s safety and smooth operation.
These dedicated volunteers not only organise and marshal exciting race events but also raise funds for charities like the Northwest Air Ambulance and North West Blood Bikes.
If you are looking for a fantastic day out in picturesque countryside, enjoying a variety of motorcycles and three-wheelers in a welcoming atmosphere, and hopefully in warm weather next year, make sure to mark this event in your diaries. Your attendance will help support a magnificent event.
