A man from Maryport has been charged after racially aggravated posts were made online.
It comes following a police operation in Carlisle in response to potential planned disorder.
Billy Thompson, 31, of Mill Street, Maryport, has been charged with an offence under Section 127 of the Communications Act.
The charge follows an investigation into the posting of racially aggravated offensive online content.
Thompson has been remanded into custody and will appear before North Cumbria Magistrates Court today.
