Craig Cook and Troy Batchelor

Workington Comets pair Craig Cook and Troy Batchelor will contest the Championship League Riders’ Championship on Sunday, September 15 (3pm).

After being confirmed as the Comets representatives in the Best Pairs competition they are now both included in the individual riders championship.

Redcar captain Charles Wright, a former Comet, will defend his title on his home ECCO Arena track so will be considered to be among the favourites.

He won it last year at the Teesside venue in a meeting which features the top riders from all nine clubs in British Speedway’s middle tier.

Wright is set to face strong competition including from his Bears team-mate Danny King, who made the Final last season.

Comets skipper Cook is a former winner along with Sam Masters (Oxford) and they are included along with 2023 runner-up Chris Harris (Glasgow), who is yet to win an individual riders’ title.

Poole No.1 Richard Lawson, another former Comet, is currently top of the league averages on an impressive 9.21 figure, just ahead of Masters and Cook, with Edinburgh’s Josh Pickering on 8.85.

Admission prices for the CLRC have been set as follows: Adults £22, Children (11-16) £5, Under-11s Free.

RIDER LIST: Richard Lawson (Poole), Sam Masters (Oxford), Craig Cook (Workington), Josh Pickering (Edinburgh), Chris Harris (Glasgow), Lewis Kerr (Berwick), Charles Wright (Redcar), Scott Nicholls (Oxford), Tom Brennan (Poole), Steve Worrall (Glasgow), Troy Batchelor (Workington), Justin Sedgmen (Edinburgh), Danny King (Redcar), Michael Palm Toft (Scunthorpe), Kyle Howarth (Scunthorpe), Dan Thompson (Plymouth).
