Barrow’s new manager Stephen Clemence got off to a winning start in League Two when his side beat Crewe 1-0 at Holker Street.
Summer signing Theo Vassell came up with the only goal of the game on 22 minutes when he got on the end of a corner from another new recruit, Connor Mahoney.
Crewe, though, would consider themselves a bit unlucky as they twice hit the woodwork in the first half.
Debutant Kane Hemmings headed a Shilow Tracey cross against the bar before the Barrow goal and later in the half the dangerous Tracey hit the post with a clever, curling effort that had beaten home keeper Paul Farman.
Tracey was always the man who looked as if he could spoil Barrow’s day and he was close to grabbing an equaliser in the second-half.
Mahoney was nearest to a second for Barrow with a good shot which was well saved by Crewe goalkeeper Filip Marshall.
