Carlisle City earned the first bragging rights of the Northern League season when they won 2-1 at Kendal Town last night.
The Sky Blues had to come from behind to earn the points after Kendal had gone ahead on the hour.
Josh Winder, who has just re-signed for the Mintcakes, scored a spectacular goal to give his side the lead on the hour.
But two goals inside six minutes in the final quarter of the game earned City the points and move them up to seventh in the First Division table.
Joesan Irving scored the City equaliser on 71 minutes and former Whitehaven forward Kian Goulding scored his first goal for the club to win the game on 77 minutes.
Kendal, who had earned a very creditable draw at second-in-the-table Blyth Town on Saturday stay in the bottom half in 14th.
City are back in League action on Saturday when they entertain Easington Colliery but it’s the magic of the FA Cup for Kendal as they have a home tie against Newcastle Benfield.
No doubt Kendal manager Jimmy Marshall will be keen to have a word with Penrith boss Darren Edmondson after the Bonnyblues beat Benfield last night 5-2 to go fourth in the table.
