Whitehaven have moved quickly to replace departing coach Jonty Gorley with former Super League star Kyle Amor.
The 37-year-old Amor has agreed to take on the role with immediate effect.
After retiring – and holding a special farewell testimonial game at Whitehaven – Amor has become a popular pundit on Sky Sports for their coverage of Super League.
Amor has had an illustrious career in the game, starting at Whitehaven when he played 44 times for the club in the 2009 and 2010 seasons,
He had joined Leeds Rhinos in 2010 but only played three senior games before going to Wakefield on loan and then signed for Trinity for whom he played 79 times.
But his career really flourished after a £50,000 move to St Helens in 2014 and with the Saints he went on to play 212 times in the next eight years.
His senior career end with a loan switch to Warrington and finally a short ten game spell at Widnes last year. In total he played 352 senior games, scoring 38 tries.
He also played five times for Ireland and led Cumbria in a World Cup warm-up game against Jamaica.
Amor will meet the Whitehaven squad at the Ortus REC ready to hit the ground running with the key Championship game against Dewsbury coming up on Sunday.
A statement announcing Amor’s appointment from the returning board members, added: “We would like to welcome Kyle and hope the fans get behind him and the team going forward.
“We would also like to thank Jonty for his service to the Whitehaven club and wish him good luck in the future.”
