Workington A took a firm step towards retaining their West Cumbria Fours League title with a big win on Friday.
They faced a key match with Fitz Park as before the match the Keswick club still had a very slim chance of winning the league and a more realistic chance of clinching the runners-up spot provided they had a good result.
However, although Workington A were missing some of their regular players (who were down at the Bowls England National Finals at Leamington Spa) they won 7-0.
It’s a result which almost certainly means that, with two games left to play, they will retain the league trophy as they lead Whitehaven A by twelve points.
Other results of games played last Friday were: Cleator Moor 5, Seaton 2; Whitehaven A 5, Workington B 2; Maryport 5. Vulcan Park 2.
League standings (games played and points): Workington A 14-86, Whitehaven A 14-74, Fitz Park 15 73, Cleator Moor 15-60, Maryport 16-59, Workington B 15-34, Vulcan Park 14-30, Seaton 15-29, Whitehaven B 15-23..
With all clubs still having at least two matches to play the situation in the West Cumbria Mixed Triples League is still far from certain as regards who will finish top.
