Good behaviour has been recognised across a range of Cumbria’s football leagues with the latest Fair Play awards.
Each league was presented with data for each of its member teams and clubs, which highlighted their discipline statistics, including specific focus on those offences linked directly to respect and behaviour.
In the case of the youth league, a collated FA Respect score was based on the matchday Respect scores submitted after games within certain age groups, to assist them with their decision.
Cumberland FA has now announced the winners who will each receive a £100 voucher to spend online at the county’s kit partners kitlocker.com
Adult leagues
Carlisle City Sunday League
When reviewing the discipline data there was a clear winner in The Wheatsheaf, who ended the season with 0 Respect Points and only 1 red and 3 yellow cards throughout the whole season.
League secretary Brian Ferguson said: “We are pleased Wheatsheaf FC have received this award from the CFA. Wheatsheaf are a long standing member of the league and, led by Jakey Blain, they continue to provide a platform for local players to participate in Sunday football while upholding commendable Respect and General Discipline values.
“They have a good set up at Wetheral, and hopefully this will continue for a long time to come.”
FC Houghton, Dalston JBR Mens 2000, Gosling Bridge, Q Zone, Re-United, Scotby, and Newlaithes were all worthy of a mention for having excellent overall discipline records.
Cumberland County League
Whitehaven Miners Social had 0 offences linked to Respect and, even with a successful season, including a run to the Fred Conway Cumberland Cup semi-final, they only received 2 red cards and 10 yellow cards throughout the season, making them comfortable winners of the voucher.
Whitehaven AFC Reserves and Workington AFC Reserves were also highly commended as receiving no Respect points for the full season.
West Cumberland Sunday League
Based on these scores the clear winner on both Respect Only and Overall Scores is Kings Arms with 0 points for Respect and only 13 discipline/total points overall (from 13 yellow cards).
Salterbeck and Deer Orchard both had 0 discipline for Respect sanctions, whilst Thornhill and Flimby Social also deserve a mention as both clubs had very respectable scores for their overall discipline.
Youth leagues
With the youth leagues, rather than looking at teams the league committees were asked to look at and recognise a member club for the award.
Penrith & District Junior Football League
The league selected Appleby Youth as the winners of their award, recognising their high standards of behaviour and their overall club administration.
Other clubs who deserved a special mention based on their high club marks were Pirelli Juniors and Dalston Junior Black Reds who both had scores of over 9.7 out of 10.
West Cumbria Youth League
The league committee here could not split two of their member clubs and therefore have purchased an additional voucher to recognise both Moor Row Juniors and Silloth JFC.
20 of the 22 clubs all average a score over 9 out of 10 for their club marks throughout the season.
