Carlisle City were beaten 3-0 at home by high-flying Boro Rangers after a promising start to the game.
Manager Dan Kirkup had expected a tough game against classy opposition as he was without several regulars.
But for half an hour City more than matched their opponents and had been unfortunate not to take the lead.
But what had started promisingly finished in disappointing fashion as the visitors came into it at the end of the half and went in front with virtually the last kick.
City gave away a needless penalty in time added on and Stuart Rose made no mistake to give the visitors the lead.
It was never quite the same in the second half and Boro added goals from Owen Burns (62) and Rose (72) to go top of the League with seven wins from seven games.
City remain in fourth and now have to pick themselves up for Wednesday’s trip to Crook Town.
