Penrith Ladies rounded off the opening week of the new season with a third consecutive win and clean sheet.
Following Tuesday’s derby win over Workington Town Women they were in action at Atherton LR Ladies and started the better of the two teams.
The Cumbrian created some early chances, with the Atherton goalkeeper doing well, making two great saves in the first ten minutes.
Atherton looked dangerous on the break and although Penrith controlled the majority of the play the final pass was letting them down.
That was until midway through the first half when a good through ball found Ellie Gallacher. The 16-year-old rounded the keeper and produced a cool finish under pressure from the defender to open her account for the season and give Penrith the lead .
Penrith pushed hard for a second but it was Atherton that came closest when another good break released their striker who’s shot required a great save from the Penrith keeper Hope Lawson .
Penrith controlled large parts of the second half and a strong defensive performance limited the Atherton attack.
Abbie Forster got Penrith’s second, scoring in her third consecutive game and the two goal cushion allowed Penrith to see the game-out and pick-up another good three points.
