Oldham were presented with the League One champions trophy after they had been too good for Workington Town in the final regular season game for the Cumbrians.
It finished 56-0 to the Roughyeds who were too strong, quick and skilful for the Cumbrians who finished the season in the final League One play-off position.
Oldham scored 28 points in each half to round-off a fine season which has seen them lost only once in 20 League One fixtures.
They went in front on 11 minutes when Danny Craven, who once spent time on loan with Town early in his career, put in a low Crossfield kick to the left where Kieran Dixon was there to touchdown.
Town then enjoyed some good possession on the Oldham line after a six-again but couldn’t find a way through a determined defence.
Oldham went in for their second try on 27 minutes when Ted Chapelhow made a break and had Andy Lawton with him to take the pass and score. This time Dixon added the extras.
Unfortunately for Town that signalled something of a defensive collapse in the last 10 minutes of the half and from 10-0, Oldham raced into a 28-0 advantage at the interval.
On 33 minutes Matty Wildie broke from dummy half to score; three minutes later skipper Jordan Turner waltzed over and two minutes before the break Dixon made a clean break from deep inside his own half before sending Phoenix Laulu-Togaga’e in for the try. Dixon converted all three.
It had been a battling effort by Town until the last 10 minutes of the half when they rather caved in.
Oldham needed eight minutes of the second-half to get on the score-sheet, Craven touching down after a classic show and go.
It was the Craven-Dixon show again on 52 minutes when a lovely cross-field kick provided the winger with his second try which he was able to convert.
On the hour Laulu-Togaga’e provided Turner with his second try after a clever link-up and the Dixon conversion made it 44-0.
It could have got messy with 20 minutes left but to their credit Town dug deep, defended well and had some moments in attack. Hartley was wrapped up after almost getting through the wall of Oldham defenders.
Two more tries for Oldham, however, in the last ten minutes carried them over the half century mark with Logan Astley and Joe Wardle scoring tries and Dixon finishing the match with eight conversions to add to his two tries.
Town will now travel to Midlands Hurricanes in the first play-off game, mindful of the fact that North Wales Crusaders got all the way to the final from a similar position last season.
