
Whitehaven Library has been closed until further notice.
Cumberland Council said the Lowther Street library has been closed after a flood.
A council spokeswoman said: “One of the boilers in the library has failed and flooded the public area of the building.
“The Council Property Team are currently on site carrying out repairs and cleaning up, and the library will remain closed while this work is undertaken.
“Any books can be returned to any Cumberland Library including local libraries in Frizington, Distington, Cleator Moor and Egremont. The loan of books can by extended by either calling 03033331234 or visiting www.cwflibraries.org.uk
“The Adult Learning Service and the Registration Service will be temporarily relocated until the library reopens.
“Both services have reached out to their clients to inform them of temporary arrangements, but if you need to contact either service, please do so on – 01946 506416 or [email protected] for Adult Learning or 03003733730 for registration.
“We apologise for the inconvenience while the library is closed.”
