Change is on the horizon for a Carlisle-based school as they announce the appointment of a senior role.
Austin Friars will be welcoming Jonathon Clark as its new head of junior school from January.
Mr Clark, a teacher since 1998, has worked in state and independent schools throughout his career and joins Austin Friars from Sheffield-based Westbourne School.
Mr Clark said: “From my very first visit in March, I could clearly see the school’s core values being demonstrated through the actions of the whole school community.
“As head of junior school, I aim to ensure that each child is nurtured with regards to their emotional well-being, social and pastoral needs, and that we keep children and their education at the centre of each decision we make.
“I am incredibly excited to relocate further north and look forward to getting to know the school and its community over the coming months.”
The current head of junior school, Chris Marsh, is due to retire at the end of December after seven years of leadership within the role and 23 years as a head at schools across Cumbria including St. Michael’s in Dalston and Castle Carrock Primary School.
Mr Marsh oversaw the relocation of the pre-school into the main junior school building, along with the development of links between senior school and junior school.
Head Chris Hattam said: “On behalf of all teachers and staff at Austin Friars, I would like to thank Mr Marsh for the outstanding contributions he has made during his time with us.
“Chris has been an absolute credit to Friars and will be missed by all, particularly the children who he taught and inspired over his seven years at the School and additional years in education.
“Looking ahead, I am excited to welcoming Mr Clark and work together to strengthen our position as the leading independent school choice within Cumbria and South West Scotland.”
