Ambleside are back in League rugby playing in Counties 1 Cumbria and they made an excellent start against Creighton – for 40 minutes.
At half-time they enjoyed a 19-0 advantage and the Lakes club, vibrant again for it’s 150th anniversary, look to be set for a winning return.
They had sufficient motivation to set-up their advantage but it was a different story in the second-half when Creighton fought-back and won 28-22.
Creighton’s forwards gradually asserted themselves in the second 40 minutes and dominated to such an extent that Ambleside were restricted to only one further score from a penalty. The home pack seemed to run out of steam.
In the second half Creighton scored four tries from Owen Gill, Daryl Rayson, Joel Davidson and Scott Hogarth, the final try to snatch the win came in the 78th minute. All were converted by full back Keenan Foster.
It was a fine come-back from the visitors and in defeat Ambleside will have been sufficiently encouraged by their first-half performance.
Full-back Greg Tebbert went over for the opening try with openside flanker Orlando Hogg twice finding a way through the Creighton defence to ass to their lead. Fly half Jack Green converted two and he kicked a second-half penalty.
