A Cumbrian fire station has issued a plea for people to think where they leave their vehicles.
Longtown Fire Station said after firefighters were alerted, they had five minutes to get in and leave the station to go to an incident.
Yesterday, they said they experienced an ‘extreme example’ of people blocking the fire station.
In a social media post, the fire station said: “We realise these vans aren’t local, but a note to everyone, including local vehicles.
“The fire station is operational at most times as we try and keep firefighter availability as high as we can. Parking anywhere on the premises can seriously affect our operational capabilities.
“On several occasions we have had to signal drivers to move from the forecourt when responding to an incident.
“This is an extreme example and even though being asked to move, they didn’t so will be taken up with the company.
“But everyone can do their bit by not parking at the station and reminding others that although the building is not manned 24 hours, it is crewed by 11 town-based firefighters. Thank you all for your continued support.”
