The M6 is reopening following a fatal collision involving a pedestrian.

The incident happened yesterday evening and the road was closed in both directions overnight.

The southbound carriageway opened at around 8am this morning, with a single lane closure, and it was thought that the northbound carriageway between junctions 41 and 43 would remain closed for most of the day.

An update from police at 11.35am today said the M6 was now being reopened.

The road was closed to allow a forensic search and examination to be carried out.

The force also confirmed it was a fatal collision. No further details have been released.

Police were called at around 8.05pm yesterday, Saturday September 14.

Police are requesting anyone who was travelling along the M6 or had been travelling near to junction 42 on the A6 around the time of the incident who may have witnessed something or may have dashcam footage to contact police.

Anyone with information relating to this incident can report online at www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it, quoting incident number 238 of 14 September 2024 or call 101.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
