Signal Film and Media is bringing the award-winning national photographic project Saturday Town to Barrow.
Launching at Barrow Railway Station on Thursday, September 19, the bold colourful photographs created in Barrow and Cumbria as part of the project will greet travellers and commuters leaving and returning to Barrow.
Saturday Town is about the powerful, playful language of fashion and how our changing culture can be read through the ways young folks communicate visually.
Photographer Casey Orr travelled the UK with a pop-up portrait studio, photographing in towns and cities on Saturday afternoons since 2013. Since then she has photographed hundreds of young people, documenting over a decade of major changes in culture, identities and the ways we use our public spaces.
Casey has been in Cumbria with her pop-up portrait studio throughout 2023-24 meeting and photographing young people throughout the region.
Local young people may have met Casey and been photographed by her last Halloween at Barrow Market or more recently during Furness Pride in May earlier this year.
A full-colour, large-format newspaper will be launched alongside the instalment of images at Barrow station, with Casey’s huge selection of new and unseen portraits of young people in Cumbria.
The photographs are a celebration of the region through the playful, colourful and also nationally significant photographic project.
