Only the second week of the season and two disappointing results in Counties 1 Cumbria.
Penrith 2nds won 104-0 at Creighton and Cockermouth were awarded a walk-over at Aspatria.
Now it might have been good for Penrith to rack up a century of points, and you can only play what is in front of you, but scores like that are not what you want in a supposedly competitive League – and so early in the season.
Probably more alarming given the stature of the club was the fact that Aspatria couldn’t find fifteen players to represent their second team, the Eagles.
To give Cockermouth some form of match practice – it as their first game of the season – they played a 10-a-side game over 20 minutes a half and the Wasps racked-up 75 points.
There was a try for the Eagles – scored by a player borrowed from Cockermouth!
This Saturday, Cockermouth entertain Keswick 2nds while Aspatria will surely find a full squad of players to travel to in-form Penrith 2nds to try and erase the embarrassment of conceding a walk-over last weekend.

St Benedict’s, beaten 34-18 by early pace-setters Penrith 2nds on the first weekend, got their show on the road with a 31-15 win at Ambleside.
James Stanway (2), Connor Grayson, Jamie Jardine and Fletcher Creasey scored the Benny’s tries with Kyle Hiddleston landing three conversions.

The south Cumbrian derby was a good, hard contest in which Millom came out best 20-10 against Hawcoat Park.
Even closer was the contest in the Lakes in which Windermere and Egremont were involved in a high-scoring affair which produced 75 points.
Egremont edged it in the end by 41-34 to add to their 17-8 derby win over Whitehaven on the opening day.
Whitehaven responded with a 32-15 win in their west Cumbrian derby at Workington.
