The 72nd Teviothead Show at Falnash Farm hosted four hound trails with prize money of £60 for all of them plus a trophy for the kennel with the most points, including a win.
The seniors were slipped first with 13 runners and although numbers were average the quality of the hounds was very good with the likes of Huntsman’s Rebel, Rodney Raider, Embrace, Silver Streak, Maverick, and Summer Spirit involved.

It had the potential to be an excellent race and as they showed on the top of the hill to drop down to the finish there were four clear with Ron, for Tom and Ryan Bell, a couple of yards in front of Maverick for the Dearham kennel of Joseph Abram and Nicola McMaster.
As they dropped in it was still Ron who cleared the last fence but in the run up to the line he just slowed down a little and let Maverick come through to win.
In third place was Eden Rayna for David Clifford and Huntsman’s Rebel for Denise and co finished in fourth.
There was a gap to fifth with Sandra Mordue and Lee Wall’s Denton Shamrock and then eventually Chapel Stile for Ian Fleet and Jayne Pettersen finished in sixth place.
The win for Maverick was his third senior race win of the season meaning there’s no change at the top with leaders Huntsman’s Rebel finishing fourth and Rodney Raider finishing outside the ticketing hounds.
The pups were next with a slip of 11 and like the seniors there were plenty of class hounds running including the leading two in the Championship, Huntsman’s Time and Thornton.

They were likely to find good opposition in Snowfell, Huntsman’s Trouble and the local hounds Millie’s Lass and Millie’s Lad, so there was the potential for another good race.
As the hounds showed on the top there were plenty of hounds in with a chance. It was Huntsman’s Time who lead them down the fell and over the last wall and the fence but with one fence left to clear Huntsman’s Time just hesitated slightly and it was the local hound Millie’s Lass who seemed to take the cleanest and shortest route and cleared the fence just in front.
The then ran on well to win for George McGimpsey, daughter and grand daughter – Gillian and Millie.
Thornton finished in third place for Darren MacMaster, Anthony Skelton and Sadie Wilson with Malcolm Holmes’ Senorita in fourth place. George’s other hound Millie’s Lad finished in fifth with Denise and Co’s other hound Huntsman’s Trouble in sixth place. Snowfell was out of the tickets in seventh place.
Next to go were the open maidens with 12 runners. It was a fairly open race as they came onto the hill to drop down where there were four clear.
However, once on the last couple of fields they made it hard work to cross the line with Delta Script for Sarah Harper, coming the straightest of the bunch to cross in first place with the other three doing a great big circle and doubling back on themselves.
Eventually they decided to come in and it was Flecky Jack who crossed in second place for the Hetherington family, with Discover for the Lindsay sisters finishing in third place.
Eden Rosanna was fourth for David Clifford while Castle Callant finished in fifth for Marti Borthwick and co with Lucky Chance earning the last ticket for Brian Shaw.
The last race of the day was the open restricted with just nine runners and as they dropped in there were two hounds with a decent lead.
However, once in the next to last field they also ran wide and put extra ground on but they did get over the fence and come back in to cross the line having a good enough lead to be able to do this before the third hound jumped the last fence.

The winner turned out to be Eagle Love for Linda Neale, Mark, Josh and Georgia Bryden. Finishing in second place was Adele for Sarah Bell with Milo Moon third for Tracey Hill. Mr Finnegan wasn’t too far behind for Sandra Mordue with Ian Fleets High Crag taking fifth place. The last ticket of the day went to Maggie Moon, also for Tracey Hill.
Darren and Nicola Macmaster were presented with the trophy for the best kennel having won a race with Maverick and a third place with Thornton, they were presented with the trophy by George McGimpsey.

After an exciting days trailing, with no change at the top of the two championship tables, action moves back down to Cumbria with a four-race meeting at Wythop with the first race starting at 1pm.
