Barrow sit proudly on top of League Two after an impressive 2-0 home win against Newport County.
It was a game they dominated for long periods and really they should have had a bigger margin of victory given the chances they created.
The Bluebirds were stronger in all areas, bossing the game and making Newport work really hard to try and stay in the contest.
Indeed, the fact that Barrow didn’t score their second goal until eight minutes from the end, showed that County could still have snatched something until the home side achieved their two goal cushion.
Stephen Clemence has his wide working hard and playing some good football, the perfect recipe for success and they had the home fans purring by the end – especially when word came through they were sitting top of the League.
They had taken the lead on 27 minutes when a Sam Foley cross was misjudged by Newport keeper Nick Townsend and Elliot Newby profited with the opening goal.
Townsend made some sort of atonement soon after when he produced a fine save to keep out a Ged Garner shot which was heading for the top corner.
Newport’s third successive League defeat was confirmed in the 82nd minute when defender Theo Vassell headed in a Ben Jackson cross.
