In the Cumberland County League yesterday the Conway Cup took centre stage with second round games taking place.
The big scorers of the day were Unisun Athletic who beat fellow Premier Division outfit Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves 7-0 with goals from Liam Graham (3), Tom McDonald (2), Jake Nicholson and Nathan Johnstone.
Maryport Athletic, from the Premier Division, beat Division One side Silloth 6-0. Ciaran Booty helped himself to a hat-trick while Josh Pattinson netted twice and Ciaran Laverty also scored to send Maryport into the next round.
Keswick also won 6-0, this time against Cockermouth Reserves from the league below. A Luke Mason double and strikes from Jamie little, Alfie West and Charlie Robson, along with an own goal helped Keswick advance.
Cockermouth first team were winners though, as they beat Aspatria 3-1 with goals from Ben Rathbone, Mark Campbell and Luke Graham. Shaun Smith grabbed Aspatria’s consolation.
Wigton Harriers beat Unisun Athletic Youth Development 4-2. Matthew Reed (2), Louie Elliot and Adam Cox scored for the Premier Division side while the Unisun goals came from Dave Nelson who netted twice.
Joe Martin and Sheldon Mossop both scored to ensure Whitehaven AFC Reserves are in the next round as they beat Whitehaven Miners Social Development 2–1 in an all-Division One tie. Miners reply came from an own goal.
The match between Dearham Utd and Whitehaven Miners Social was postponed.
It wasn’t just cup football that was being played as Mirehouse welcomed Bransty Rangers in Division One. It was the home side that won 2-0 with Reece Healey and Nathan Clarke both netting.
On Tuesday night, Whitehaven Miners Social travel to West Lancashire League Premier Division side Cleator Moor Celtic in the first round of the Fred Conway Cumberland Cup, kick off is 7pm.
