Show season set to start for West Cumbrian fanciers

The racing might have finished for West Cumbrian fanciers but next month sees the start of the show season.

Both Workington and Flimby HS, the two clubs who continue the once very popular winter pastime for the racing men, have released their programmes.

Flimby set-off their series on Wednesday, November 13 with a class for old cocks and from then on it’s Wednesday, November 20, old hens; Wednesday, November 27, young cocks and Wednesday, December 4, young hens.

Held in Flimby Sports and Social club judging will be at 7.30pm and entry is 50p a bird with £1 unlimited nomination.

There will be a first prize of £25 for each show and the fancier over the series with most points will also win £25.

Workington Victoria start on Friday, November 15 with old cocks in the Union Jack Club and continue as follows – Friday, November 22, old hens; Friday, November 29, young cocks; Friday, December 6, young hens; Friday, December 13, ticket winners and fancy coloureds.

Judging is at 7.30pm and entry is 50p a bird, unlimited nominations.

The winner of each show will receive £20 and the most points in the series will earn £20.
